TITLE
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE�S CODESIGNATION OF THAT PORTION OF U.S. 441/S.R. 7/NW 7 AVENUE BETWEEN NW 155TH LANE AND NW 151ST STREET AS �ROBERT �BOBBY� L. PARKER, SR., MEMORIAL HIGHWAY�

BODY
WHEREAS, during the 2017 legislative session, the Florida Legislature enacted Chapter 2017-193, Laws of Florida (Senate Bill 368), which, in relevant part, codesignated that portion of U.S. 441/S.R. 7/NW 7 Avenue between NW 155th Lane and NW 151st Street as �Robert �Bobby� L. Parker, Sr., Memorial Highway�; and
WHEREAS, Robert �Bobby� L. Parker, Sr. (�Parker�) joined the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1976, where he served in every civil rank in the Department, from police officer to Captain; and
WHEREAS, Parker was eventually appointed through the ranks of Major, Chief, and Assistant Director; and
WHEREAS, on April 1, 2004, Parker became the first African-American Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, serving admirably until his retirement in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Parker honorably served the Department and his community for 33 distinguished years; and
WHEREAS, Parker passed away on July 22, 2015; and
WHEREAS, section 334.071, Florida Statutes, provides that the installation of state road designation signs shall be contingent on the applicable county or city commission passing a resolution in support of the particular honorary road designation; and
WHEREAS, before the Florida Department of Transportation will install signs reflecting the �Robert �Bobby� L. Parker, Sr., Memorial Highway� road codesignation, Miami-Dade County is required to pass a resolution in support of this road designation; and
WHEREAS, that portion of U.S. 441/S.R. 7/NW 7 Avenue between NW 155th Lane and NW 151st Street is a County-maintained road located in unincorporated Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 2,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the Florida Legislature�s codesignation of that portion of U.S. 441/S.R. 7/NW 7 Avenue between NW 155th Lane and NW 151st Street as �Robert �Bobby� L. Parker, Sr., Memorial Highway�.
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, the Miami-Dade County Police Department, and the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department.
