TITLE RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION�S DECISION TO DEPLOY A UNITED STATES NAVY HOSPITAL SHIP TO PROVIDE AID TO VENEZUELAN REFUGEES BODY WHEREAS, Venezuela is experiencing political unrest and an economic crisis that has resulted in shortages of food and medical supplies; and WHEREAS, in 2018, an average of 5,000 Venezuelan people left their country each day in search of protection and better living circumstances; and WHEREAS, according to the United Nations, about 2.7 million Venezuelans are being hosted in other Latin American and Caribbean countries; and WHEREAS, the Trump Administration has warned that another 2 million Venezuelan people are expected to flee their country by the end of the year if the crisis in Venezuela continues; and WHEREAS, the Trump Administration recently announced that a United States Navy hospital ship will embark on a humanitarian mission to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America to aid Venezuelan refugees; and WHEREAS, the aid is designed to bring relief to people fleeing Venezuela and the countries hosting them, who are struggling with widespread shortages of food and medicine, and with other socioeconomic ills propagated by the Nicol�s Maduro regime; and WHEREAS, this Board has repeatedly taken steps to condemn the actions of the Maduro regime while supporting diplomatic efforts to promote democracy, human rights, and freedom in Venezuela; and WHEREAS, this Board wishes to support the efforts of the Trump Administration in providing aid to Venezuelan refugees, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Supports the efforts of the Trump Administration in deploying a United States Navy hospital ship to bring humanitarian aid to Venezuelan refugees. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the President of the United States and the members of the Florida Congressional Delegation. |
