TITLE RESOLUTION CREATING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY YOUTH CRIME TASK FORCE; PROVIDING MEMBERSHIP, PURPOSES AND TERM BODY WHEREAS, it is recognized that the increasing incidence of youth crime and youth gun violence in Miami-Dade County is detrimental to the welfare of all Miami-Dade County citizens; and WHEREAS, there is a need for comprehensive solutions to the problems of youth crime and youth gun violence; and WHEREAS, many communities have experienced significant reduction in youth crime through comprehensive crime prevention programs; and WHEREAS, similar programs or other strategies may provide the necessary framework for solving the problems of youth crime and youth gun violence in Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, the formation of a single task force made up of representatives from various agencies involved in the fight against youth crime will facilitate the study of the problems of youth crime and youth gun violence and the formulation of solutions, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. Creation; composition. There is hereby created a Miami-Dade County Youth Crime Task Force consisting of the members identified on the list below and other members who may be added by the Board of County Commissioners: Hon. Barbara Carey, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Hon. Javier D. Souto, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Hon. Carmen Caldwell, City of Hialeah Councilwoman Hon. The Task Force is created for the following purposes: (1) Study the problems of youth crime and youth gun violence in Miami-Dade County. (2) Analyze possible solutions to these problems with particular emphasis on studying crime prevention programs which have significantly reduced youth crime in other communities and cities. (3) Develop an overall countywide plan for the prevention of youth crime and youth gun violence in Miami-Dade County. Section 3. Report. The Task Force shall submit a written report to the County Commission with its countywide plan and recommendations no later than September 9, 1999. Section 4. Term. The Task Force shall remain in existence until January 18, 2000. |
