Read about new information on the competitive solicitation process for grants to community-based organizations (CBOs) during fiscal year 2015-16, and to provide community input on the new process.

Community-Based Organizations

Comprised of no more than 21 leaders (e.g. community, business, civic education, non-profit, social services experts, service recipients, religious leaders), the CBO Advisory Board is charged with setting and advancing policies, goals, and objectives and has responsibility for the basis upon which County resources are invested and leveraged to accomplish stated goals, and for presenting a strategic “portfolio” of investments (grant recommendations) to the Board of County Commissioners.

The Mayor and each Commissioner has one appointment to the Advisory Board. Seven additional members are appointed via the following organizations: United Way of Miami-Dade; The Children’s Trust; Dade Community Foundation; Chamber of Commerce; National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); Greater Miami Religious Leaders Coalition; and Alliance for Aging.

Their oversight responsibilities are governed by Resolution R#420-08: Model Process for Solicitation for and Allocation of Funding for Community-Based Organizations.

The Community-Based Organization Advisory Board convened a series of meetings or forums in December 2008 to solicit service provider and public comment on the overall process for solicitation of proposals, establishment of funding categories and priorities, and specifically human and social service community needs. The schedule of these previously held meetings are provided in the flyers below.
