2008 Storms Disaster Recovery Funds
Updated Notice
The following is an update providing additional information to the previous notice regarding the State of Florida’s “2008 Storms Disaster Recovery Funds” (2008 Supplemental CDBG Appropriations) program.
The State’s Action Plan for Use of the 2008 Disaster Recovery Funds was approved by HUD on November 24. Funds have been allocated to communities in Florida affected by the specified disasters. Priority consideration will be given to projects needed as a direct result of the storms and secondary consideration to eligible mitigation activities. Failure to document that a project is needed as a result of the disaster(s) or to mitigate the effects of future disasters will result in an application being declared ineligible.
Miami-Dade County is eligible to apply for $504,969 in funding resulting from damage sustained by Tropical Storm Fay. Counties are the only eligible applicants to apply for funding. The County will consider the needs of all municipalities (and Federally Recognized Indian Tribes). The three main categories of need include public assistance (infrastructure and public facilities), business (commercial revitalization), and housing. A list of eligible activities is included in the Action Plan on page 5.
A final local application is due to the Department of Community Affairs by January 15, 2010. The County invites interested municipalities, tribal governments, and housing providers to attend a meeting and workshop to review the objectives of the program, the grant requirements, and the local application process (deadline January 4, 2010) on:
