The KaBOOM! Playspace project requires mobilizing community volunteers to build a new playground in just one day. KaBOOM! Provides ongoing opportunities for community organizations to build a new playground, ice rink, skatepark or refurbish a sports field. They are currently locating potential community partners in cities and towns across the US to create playspaces with KaBOOM! and their corporate partners. Ideal community partners are usually child-serving non-profit organizations, but can be community development organizations, neighborhood coalitions, schools or any organization that can mobilize a volunteer force and is in need of a new placespace! Ideal community partner candidates: should contribute up to $10,000 cash towards the cost of equipment; Serve children from low-income or disadvantaged backgrounds; Provide land for the playground (at least a 50' x 50' space); Agree to insure and maintain the playground for the lifetime of the playspace; Provide food, water and restroom facilities for the volunteers on Build Day; Recruit 15 parent, community and staff volunteers to participate in planning committees; Recruit 50-100 parents and community volunteers to help build the playspace in one day; and Demonstrate enthusiasm, excitement and commitment to planning a community revitalization project. 2007 KaBOOM! opportunities are available in specific cities including Miami, Florida.
The Florida Sports Foundation's Major and Regional Grant Programs were established in 1996 to assist communities and host organizations in attracting sports events, which generate significant out-of-state economic impact for the state of Florida. Events that will be considered for grant funding include amateur or professional athletic events, or other categories approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors. The Foundation places emphasis on out-of-state economic impact, community support and image value to the state. Grant applications are only accepted through a regional Sports Commission in the State of Florida. All grant applications will be reviewed quarterly, and application deadlines are as follows: January 10, April 10, July 10, and October 10, annually.
The Architecture for Humanity is making funding available to design and build projects that use sports (including bicycling, etc.) to teach lessons about health care, environment, ecology, getting along, or the value of a good education. Groups and individuals are invited to submit a short concept statement. Projects will be reviewed on a rolling basis over three rounds ending April 15, 2009, July 15, 2009, and September 15, 2009.
The program staff provides guidance to communities to help them achieve conservation goals. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss their project with RTCA staff before sending in an application. It can be helpful to schedule an advance field visit by our staff to best understand how RTCA can be of assistance.
The primary mission of the Tony Hawk Foundation is to promote high-quality, public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States by providing grants to encourage and facilitate the design, development, construction, and operation of new skateboard parks and facilities. The foundation primarily considers funding for projects designed and built by qualified and experienced skatepark contractors and that include local skaters in the design process, are in low-income areas and/or areas with a high population of at-risk youth, can demonstrate a strong grassroots commitment, have a creative mix of street obstacles and transition/vert terrain, do not require skaters or their parents to sign waivers, encourage skaters to look after their own safety and the safety of others, are open during daylight hours 365 days a year, do not charge an entrance fee, and are in areas that currently have no skateboarding facilities. Grants range from a minimum of $1,000 to a maximum of $25,000 each. The foundation may also offer technical assistance on design and construction, promotional materials, training materials, and safety information, and facilitate support from vendors, suppliers, and community leaders. The applicant must be a 501(c)(3) public charity or a state or local agency (including public school systems or public projects). The foundation anticipates approving grant requests twice a year (spring and fall). Applicants may apply for a grant a total of two times. Grant recipients that have received no more than $1,000 may also re-apply once. Application deadline: March 2, 2009; October 1, 2009.
