Committees
Executive Committee
Comprised of the Chair, Vice Chair, Second Vice Chair, and committee chairpersons. The function of the Executive Committee is to determine YCTF direction, policy, and function.
Legislation and Funding
This committee supports relevant legislative recommendations promulgated by youth oriented organizations and prepares important legislative recommendations regarding delinquency and youth each year.
Monitoring Outcomes and Evaluation
Reviews reported outcomes for funded programs and makes recommendations for continued funding for organizations and service initiatives.
Education, Prevention, and Intervention
Provides support for funded initiatives. For example, this Committee recognized that insufficient information was available about the YCTF and its funded programs. They requested creation of a YCTF website and a brochure that explains what the YCTF does and by whom. Finally, the Committee will be studying gaps in services as identified in the Juvenile Justice Board’s “Comprehensive Strategy Report.”
Juvenile Justice System
The Committee members will help develop the changes related to juveniles on the arrest form being revised in cooperation with the Juvenile Justice Board. They plan to support activities related to Juvenile Justice Week each year in April.
Model Programs
This Committee has made suggestions to the Department of Juvenile Justice regarding programming at the Krome facility. Many people involved in juvenile justice believe that the Krome facility should be a local, residential, special needs facility, for both males and females, moderate and high risk, rather than strictly for detention. In addition, the Committee wants to find programs that can be administered countywide for girls age 10-17.
