A Letter from the Mayors Dinner Program
March 13, 2008
Dear Friends,
Welcome. Tonight is an exciting opportunity for all of us. We are sharing with you a vision of the County¹s future- a future in which we all work together to realize a goal that is important to all of us: a sustainable community. The Park and Open Space System Master Plan is the result of a collaborative effort by local federal, state and municipal park directors.
The overall finding is that a great park system is fundamental to a community¹s social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Parks and public spaces define the character of a community and bring us together. A great park system promotes economic vitality, connects people to nature, promotes health and community well-being, and sustains natural systems. In Miami Dade County, a sustainable future can only be accomplished through partnerships and the collaboration of City, County, State and Federal agencies working together. We hope that tonight is the first of many steps we take in coming together as leaders to define and build a better future for us and for generations to come.
Thank you for being here tonight and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Great Park Summit at Fairchild Tropical Gardens. Let the work begin!
Sincerely,
Carlos Alvarez
