    Parking Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Pay Via Payroll Deductions?
We encourage all Miami - Dade County employees to pay by payroll deduction. This way all parking fees are deducted pre tax

    What are Pre Tax Charges?
In 1997, the Taxpayer Relief Act was passed for parking benefits. On June 9, 1998, President Clinton signed the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century into law. This act made several changes to the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), including a provision in Section 9010 affecting transit benefits, which are considered qualified transportation fringe benefits. Employers can now provide these benefits in addition to current compensation paid to their workers or for the first time, in lieu of their existing compensation. Parking charges can now be deducted from the Gross Pay of all Miami – Dade County employees.

Do I Have To Pay For Parking While On Vacation/Leave?
All parking patrons are expected to pay for the privilege of having a space available for them. Please remember even if you are going on vacation you are still responsible to pay for the parking during that period. The only exceptions are for extended leave of absences. These are patrons that will be out for more than 3 weeks. To postpone parking charges you must contact the parking office and make arrangements. If not your parking charges will continue to accrue.

What happens in case of Bounced Checks:

If GSA Parking Department receives a check returned for insufficient/uncollected funds, the payer will be required to pay the following bad check fees:

    • $25.00 for all checks of $50.00 or less.
    • $30.00 for all checks over $50.00 to $300.00.
    • $40 or 5% whichever is greater for all checks over $300.00.

Do You Have A Waiting List?

We will not be maintaining a waiting list. We currently have space available at Garage # 5 (Hickman). Anyone that is interested can complete a Key Card Activation Form Application online and submit the form to us. Periodically we will post on our website any facility openings that become available. All individuals will have the chance to complete a Key Card Activation Form Application with the request. Key Card Activation Form Applications will be accepted on the sequence in which they are received. Example: Garage # 5 – has a monthly parking opening, and we receive between 5 – 10 Key Card Activation Form Applications. The person who submits their response first will be entitled for the parking space vacancy.

We hope these question response can answer some of the most commonly asked questions. If you require additional information, please contact us at our Office 172 West Flagler Street - Room 325, 305-375-4159.
