The Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB) is pleased to host the following signature events annually:
The Hispanic Role Model and Future Leader of the Year Award Luncheon
The Role Model award was established by the board to recognize a Hispanic who has contributed to the enhancement and development of business, culture, education and the arts in our community. The Future Leader award was established by the board in 2005 with the purpose of recognizing a young Hispanic mentor for his/her expertise, energy, enthusiasm and contributions to the Miami-Dade County Community. Someone that would become a future role model. The event takes place every year during the month of October opening the Board’s Hispanic Heritage month celebration.
The Hispanic Art Expressions Exhibit
The exhibit was established by HAAB as part of the Hispanic Heritage month celebration in 2000. It is composed of thirty-eight artists representing thirteen Hispanic countries. One of the purposes of the exhibit is to promote the Hispanic culture through art and sculpture, and showcase the diversity of the Hispanic community. The other purpose is to contribute to the education of Hispanic youth in Miami-Dade County. The participating artists donate a percentage of the art sales to the STARS/HOPE scholarship fund. The Miami-Dade County Community College Foundation manages this fund.
STARS/HOPE is a project of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Hispanic Business Group. The program grants scholarships to qualifying economically disadvantage Hispanic youth from Miami-Dade College.
