Understanding Health Insurance
As of 2013, roughly half of all Miami-Dade County residents get private health insurance – most through an employer – but some pay on their own for an individual or family policy.
Miami-Dade County provides information on a variety of programs – from health care to prescription drug discounts. Not all programs are income-based. Visit the Countywide Healthcare Planning website to learn about these programs.
The Office of Insurance Regulation regulates commercial insurance in Florida to protect consumers. The Consumer helpline can assist residents with insurance questions and resolve complaints against their insurer or agent. The can be reached at 877-693-5236.
