Explore Miami on Columbus Day!
We celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World on Monday, Oct. 14. In observance of the holiday, County offices will be closed. Read on for information about County services. Also, public school will be in session that day, so parents, this is your chance to enjoy a day at the park or beach, or go sightseeing around town. See which of these suggestions catches your eye.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Take an audio tour of the house, dine and pick up a trinket at Vizcaya Café and Shop.
Deering Estate at Cutler
Go on a guided tour and learn the amazing history of the Richmond Cottage, Stone House and other recesses of this local treasure. Or explore the estate's natural areas.
Spend the Day Over or Under Water
Take to the beautiful shallow waters of Key Biscayne and explore the protected areas of Bear Cut Preserve where land meets the sea.
Check out the new Bob Marley Messenger exhibit which debuts Oct. 10. Curated by The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE, the exhibition features concert footage and photographs from the Marley family and explores Marley as a spiritual man and powerful performer who inspired a legion of fans.
Dine at the Park
Choose from the Mango Café at Fruit & Spice Park, Ocean Grill at Black Point Marina, Red Fish Grill at Matheson Hammock and other delicious dining options. You deserve it.

Miami-Dade County's has hundreds of miles bike pathways and trails that connect our community. Map out your route and experience Miami-Dade County up-close and personal.
Columbus Day Regatta and Fun for Landlubbers
This time-honored sailing event returns in its 59th year challenging sailors to race from Miami to the Florida Keys. But boaters beware: due to the federal government shutdown, Biscayne National Park will be closed to boaters. That goes for snorkelers too. The race itself doesn't go to Biscayne National Park, so it won't affect the course.
