Can the grease!

A holiday reminder: Don't dump cooking grease or oil down the drain or toilet. Instead, pour it into a metal can or heat-resistant oven bag, let it cool a few minutes, then throw it out with your regular trash. It helps the environment and avoids a potentially costly repair bill.

• Holidays are all about family, tradition and fun memories. Run Miami's Turkey Trot combines all three! So grab the family and come out to Tropical Park on Nov. 22 where you have the option of running a 10K or 5K. Register now.
• Give thanks this year with a new lovable pet! Enter a raffle to win a free shelter pet on Nov. 24 at the Animal Services shelter.
• Share a nice meal with family and friends at Zoo Tots - Thanksgiving with Friends, Nov. 15 from 10 - 11 a.m.
• Celebrate Thanksgiving on Nov. 21 with stories, songs and crafts. For a list of participating branches visit Miami-Dade Public Library.
• Parks facilities such as Crandon Park and Biscayne Nature Center are open.
