Remembering the Homeless Who Passed in 2013: Miami-Dade County Marks National "Homeless Persons' Memorial Day" with Candlelight Vigil, Friday, December 20

On Friday, December 20, 2013, Miami-Dade County will join more than 152 cities nationwide in hosting a “National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day” event with a candlelight vigil and memorial service. The service and vigil will be held at the Stephen P. Clark Center in Downtown Miami and will include the reading of the names of those homeless individuals who passed away in Miami-Dade County over the past 12 months.

The memorial service is being jointly coordinated by the Homeless/Formerly Homeless Forum, Inc., a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that was established in 1993 to promote solutions to the problems facing families and individuals, homeless and formerly homeless, living on the streets of Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, the agency responsible for implementing the “continuum of care” system of homeless housing and services in the community, and the Miami Coalition for the Homeless, Inc., a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization founded in 1984 to promote community efforts to prevent and end homelessness in South Florida.

National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day takes place on or near the first day of winter to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness.
