US HUD awards Miami-Dade County Public Housing Agency Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers for US Veterans

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
On August 5, 2011, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (US HUD) awarded funding to Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency (MDPHA) to support 50 Section 8 housing vouchers for eligible veterans through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) initiative.  The HUD-VASH program combines Section 8 rental assistance with case management and clinical services for homeless veterans.  Supportive services are provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

"We are pleased to be able to provide much needed assistance for veterans who sacrificed for our country but are now experiencing difficulties in finding decent, safe and affordable housing.  Through Miami-Dade County's partnership with US HUD and the VA, we can help provide these 50 veterans and their families with the peace of mind that comes with securing a stable home," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

HUD-VASH funds may only be used for providing permanent housing for eligible homeless US veterans who are single or with families.  Eligible candidates for the program are expected to participate in case management and utilize the supportive services, treatment recommendations, and assistance needed to successfully maintain recovery and sustain housing in the community.

To apply for HUD-VASH Section 8 vouchers, contact your local VA Homeless Program at (305) 541-5864.
