At the Miami-Dade Housing Agency, our mission is to provide decent, affordable housing to Miami-Dade County's qualified low- and moderate-income residents. To accomplish this, we administer federal subsidies that support almost 10,000 units of public and other assisted housing. We also work with builders, developers, lenders and private housing providers to expand affordable housing opportunities in Miami-Dade County. We support self-sufficiency and offer resources for current and aspiring homeowners.
What We Do
We, the employees of Miami-Dade Housing Agency, through our collective efforts to positively enhance and better serve this community with integrity, care, high ethical standards, and competence, are committed to provide to low-and moderate-income residents of Miami-Dade County:
- Quality affordable housing opportunities
- Neighborhood revitalization and stabilization activities
- Economic independence opportunities
- Partnerships with private and public entities to optimize resources through innovative programs
- Efficient and effective management of resources generated
We are very proud of the accomplishments of our agency, but more importantly, we remain committed to meeting the challenges facing the housing needs of our community and empowering low- and moderate-income residents towards self-sufficiency. Major initiatives undertaken by our agency are focused towards increasing homeownership opportunities and developing partnerships with private industry to increase employment and business opportunities for residents. As the sixth largest housing agency in the nation and undoubtedly one of the most complex and comprehensive public housing agencies, MDHA is responsible for housing over 30,000 residents; has contractual agreements with seven private companies for property management services; provides for Section 8 subsidized payments for 16,000 units; and administers an array of specialized housing opportunities for special populations and the homeless.
The agency is also the primary County department responsible for the development of affordable housing administering the Documentary Surtax Program, State Housing Initiative Program (SHIP) and serves as the contractor for the Office of Community and Economic Development in implementing the Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME). These programs represent an aggregate annual total of approximately $30 million used for the development of affordable housing, with a loan portfolio estimated at $200 million, and asset management of $800 million. The agency is actively involved in promoting the department’s efficiency and productivity through various initiatives. Our agency has earned a well-deserved reputation as an innovative department with capable, professional staff. Our programs have received numerous national awards and recognition in many areas. |
