Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson to dedicate Liberty Square playground for public housing residents in District 3

(MIAMI, July 5, 2013) – As part of Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson’s continuing commitment to enhance the lives of the youth of District 3, Commissioner Edmonson has partnered with the Miami-Dade County Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD) and Liberty Square Resident Council to officially announce the opening of the new Liberty Square playground. This playground is for children ages five to 10 years old living at the Liberty Square public housing development, built over 75 years ago. Funding for the playground was provided by Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD) Community Development Block Grant funds.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is the highlight of the Liberty Square Summer Bash, a day filled with fun activities for children from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., which includes balloon animals, bounce houses, waterslides, cotton candy, popcorn, and hot dogs and burgers.

Commissioner Edmonson said, “It is just good public policy to ensure that when we find open spaces in neighborhoods, especially in public housing areas, we should improve the quality of life of our residents, especially our most vulnerable population, our children.”
