Helen M. Sawyer Assisted Living Facility

Miami-Dade County Assisted Living Facility a/k/a Helen M. Sawyer Plaza (Facility) combines the concept of Public Housing and assisted living facility (ALF).   This Facility provides services to low-income elderly residents with a safe and comfortable place to enjoy their golden years.

Concerned with the lack of affordable services that would allow the elderly to “age in place”, Miami-Dade County through its Public Housing and Community Development converted the public housing development Helen M. Sawyer Plaza into an assisted living facility (ALF) in 1998.  The property was named after Helen M. Sawyer, a former housing agency employee who was known as a humanitarian; however, the facility is licensed under Miami-Dade County.

The Facility

The facility provides private accommodations comprised of large studios and one bedroom apartments.  It is licensed for 101 apartments, within an eight-story building covering 2.38 acres, and built in 1976.   This facility is not a nursing home; it does not hold a license to provide 24-hour nursing services.

In the Neighborhood

The facility is accessible to public transportation. The property is within walking distance of the Culmer Metrorail station and provides easy access for families who wish to visit their loved ones. The facility is also near local hospitals, major supermarkets and shopping centers.

Amenities and Services

This facility provides a range of amenities and services.

Eligibility Guidelines and Admission Criteria

Prospective residents must meet all the required qualifications in order to be considered for residency.  We thank you for your interest in our facility.
