This federally-funded rental program allows tenants to choose their unit in the private housing market. Assistance in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher is tied to the person, not the unit, and allows the participant to lease any unit that meets the program requirements, including units outside the Miami-Dade Housing Agency's (MDHA) jurisdiction. Participants are selected from the Miami-Dade Housing Agency's waiting list typically pay between 30% and 40% of income toward rent; the landlord receives the difference in the form of a housing assistance payment from MDHA.
