    Event: Proactive Performance Appraisal - Employees Only

    Description: This workshop introduces supervisors to Miami-Dade County performance appraisal procedures and forms. The class focuses on the purpose of performance appraisal, how it differs from discipline, supervisor objectivity, and performance appraisal interview techniques. The importance of documentation and follow-up action is emphasized. A video on performance monitoring and motivation reinforces the practical application of the performance appraisal techniques.     Event: Employee Recognition - County Employees Only

    Description: This 2½ hour class provides a foundation on the importance of recognizing employees. Topics covered include 4 types of employee recognition, closing the employee recognition gap, 7 principles for successful employee recognition, the power of positive employee recognition, 5 tips for effective employee recognition, avoiding employee recognition traps, how leaders make people feel important through rewards and recognition, and the Countys recognition programs.     Event: Business Writing 2 - County Employees Only
    Date/Time: 11/24/09 08:30AM - 04:30PM
    Description: This workshop builds on the writing mechanics of Business Writing Level I. Participants learn to use audience identification, concision, and channel selection to write effectively. Practical exercises include writing memos, e-mails, and letters. Emphasis is placed on positive, persuasive, motivational, and results-oriented writing. Note: Business Writing Level II can be substituted for Business Writing Level I as a core course. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. STATUS: OPEN

    Event: Customer Service - SCP - County Employees Only
    Date/Time: 11/25/09 08:30AM - 04:30PM
    Description: This workshop is an elective under the Supervisory Certificate Program. It places emphasis on effective communication with co-workers and the public. Participants explore the importance of the supervisor's role in customer service as well as the impact of excellent customer service on the County's image and operations. Group exercises and role playing in areas of difficult customers and telephone skills contribute to the interactive learning atmosphere. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. STATUS: OPEN

    Event: Making Meetings Work - County Employees Only
    Date/Time: 11/25/09 09:30AM - 12:00PM
    Description: This 2½ hour class provides an effective way in conducting meetings. Topics include Understanding and preparing to use six steps that will make a meeting work which are 1) Choosing to a hold a meeting, 2) Constructing an agenda, 3) Selecting participants, 4) Managing the meeting, 5) Closing the meeting, 6) Keeping up the momentum. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. STATUS: OPEN

    Event: Structured Interviews - County Employees Only
    Date/Time: 11/30/09 08:30AM - 04:30PM
    Description: Participants learn to develop effective structured interviews that yield the best qualified candidates. Participants receive practical information on the hiring process including planning interviews, developing questions, devising rating/scoring systems, and screening resumes. Participants learn a defensible process that complies with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidelines. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. STATUS: OPEN
