If employees become disabled during the performance of their job, they may be eligible for disability benefits. If the disability lasts for more than eight months and the employee is unable to perform their duties, they may apply for benefits under the long-term disability program.
Short-term Disability
Full time employees who have a service-connected disability may be entitled to receive their normal pay for up to 120 days. The amount received will be reduced by the amount of Worker's Compensation benefits they receive. If the employee cannot return to work at the end of this time, the case will be reviewed and, if approved by the County Manager, the benefits may be extended up to another 120 days. Disability leave may be denied if it is determined that the disability occurred through the employee's negligence or willful misconduct.
Long-term Disability
Full time employees, who are unable to perform their duties due to a service-connected disability that has lasted for more than eight months, may apply for benefits under the long-term disability program.
Employees may also acquire disability insurance through the employee benefits program that will cover loss of payroll income because of disability. Please visit the Employee Benefits site for more information on coverage.
