General Government
All county offices (including libraries) will be closed on all eleven County holidays.
Transit
Normally-scheduled county bus, Metrorail and Metromover service is provided on all holidays except for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, when service operates on a Sunday schedule.
Garbage / Trash Collection and Trash / Recycling (T&R) Centers
County garbage/trash collection services, including twice-weekly curbside collection, are available on all holidays except Martin Luther King's Birthday, Independence Day, and Christmas Day. All collection services including the Centers observe the holidays listed.
County Employees
In addition to the 11 Observed County Holidays, below are an extra two that are provided to a county employee.

Floating Holiday
The Floating Holiday is to be taken at the mutual convenience of the employee and the department. This holiday cannot be accrued, compensated for, or transferred from one fiscal year to the next. Only career employees having more than nine (9) pay periods of the County service are eligible to use this holiday. The Employee earns this holiday at the beginning of each fiscal year (October 1st).
Employees out of pay status for any portion of the day before or
after a holiday will not be eligible to be paid for, or bank, the holiday.
