| Miami-Dade County's high school internship program gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to explore career opportunities in a wide variety of County occupations while receiving professional guidance and mentorship.
Eligibility requirements and application procedure
Students must be either a junior or senior in high school and must fill out an application through their high school internship coordinator. The coordinator will then submit the application to Human Resources Program Coordinators.
The high school internship experience
As an intern with Miami-Dade County, high school students will receive a unique career-related experience. Interns will participate in activities that include investigations, presentations, research projects, program design and everyday shadowing of professionals.
All high school internships are non-paid and for high school credit. High school internships are afternoon programs. Interns work for a maximum of five hours per week on a pre-set schedule arranged by the department and based on the student's class schedule.
In some cases, the student will be expected to complete an associated project for the school in fulfillment of the course requirement. Specific project requirements will be provided to the department, if applicable. The department will provide the school with a grade for each marking period and at the end of the semester.
