| Whether you aspire to be the future County Manager or if you have less ambitious goals, the first step in reaching career success begins with finding your path.
Steps to Success is all about empowering County employees by providing the guidance, tools and resources to reach your career goals.
Find your path!
- Visit the program's Succession Planning Opportunities page to view the list of upcoming position vacancies.
- Log onto e-Jobs and register your interest in participating in Steps to Success. All Steps to Success positions will be preceded by "SP." It is highly recommended that applicants limit their participation to one or two succession planning opportunities.
- Once you have registered your interest via e-Jobs, work with your supervisor to complete the Individual Assessment and Development Plan.
- After you have developed your plan, you will begin to build on your knowledge, skills and abilities, which may include taking classes, gaining certifications or participating in mentorships or apprenticeships.
- With the assistance of your supervisor, you will verify that developmental gaps have been closed. Departmental HR staff will maintain records of participation and achievement, such as reports from mentors or certificates from academic and training institutions.
Participating employees will continue working in their current positions as they prepare to meet the requirements of the position they aspire to. Employees will assume primary responsibility for their career development, scheduling learning activities and attending training/development programs.
Completing your Individual Development Plan should typically take between 18 to 24 months. However, the duration of the development stage will vary based on individual needs.
While department directors are encouraged to support employee development plans, employees are required to schedule their learning activities with minimum impact on departmental operations. Additionally, participation in the program does not guarantee time-off for learning activities nor does it obligate the County to pay for such programs.
