The 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season is from Jun. 1 - Nov. 30. Though the past few seasons have been relatively uneventful, long periods of quiet can lead to complacency. The remedy is preparation, a responsibility in which each of us has a share.
Should a storm threaten, emergency planners at all levels of government - local, state and federal - are ready to respond with a singular focus on our community's wellbeing. Along with disaster relief organizations and consumer protection agencies, we work together to ensure that community needs are met, whether great or small.
On a personal level, each of us can do our part as well, by safeguarding our homes, staying informed and assisting in recovery efforts. This guide explains how to do just that before, during and after a storm, and it provides key resources easily accessed online, in person or on the phone by calling 3-1-1.
Sincerely,
