About Annexations

Annexation is the process whereby an established municipality amends its boundaries by adding lands that were previously outside of its boundaries pursuant to requirements contained in the Miami-Dade County Code Chapters 20-1 thru 20-3 and 20-30. The Code addresses petition requirements and considerations made by the Planning and Advisory Board and the Board of County Commissioners. Upon these considerations the Board of County Commissioners determine if the annexation is to be put to a vote by the electorate (if more than 250 electors reside in the boundaries) of the affected area.
