The Government Information Center provides access to government service through our award-winning the Web portal – miamidade.gov – and the 3-1-1 Answer Center, the nation's first multi-jurisdictional call center for non-emergency government services.
Why We're Here
The importance of technology in the everyday lives of Americans cannot be overstated. Neither can the importance of government. According to a recent survey, most Internet users users expect government information to be on the Web. Consider these statistics:
This reality is no surprise to those on the inside of government. In a 2002 survey of the members of the National League of Cities:
While the Web plays a vital role in the relationship between the public and government, the telephone remains the tool of choice when it comes to getting answers.
That is why the Government Information Center was created. Integrating Internet and telephone access to government information and services deserves a focused effort lead by experts in technology-based service delivery and customer care.
Our goal is to simplify service through these main points of contact while gathering and analyzing data on service requests so that government policymakers can make informed decisions about where and how to use County resources.
The Government Information Center will serve as the backbone of "borderless government" in Miami-Dade County in which people can interact with all levels of government – city, county, state and federal – through actual and virtual portals.
