Miami-Dade County's 3-1-1 system was launched to the public in 2005 and proved to be especially helpful during the hurricane activations when the center operates 24 hours a day. Using their cell phones to call 3-1-1, residents reported downed trees obstructing traffic and downed traffic lights that needed repair. Problems were plotted on maps that helped managers dispatch crews more efficiently.
