Miami-Dade County hosts Downtown Wellness Mega Fair on April 26

Residents and visitors are invited to the County's first annual Spring into Wellness Mega Fair promoting healthy lifestyles

(MIAMI, April 15, 2013) – Miami-Dade County is hosting its first annual Spring into Wellness Mega Fair on Friday, April 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Stephen P. Clark Center’s west-side Courtyard, located at 111 NW 1 Street, in Miami. Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to participate in fun and engaging wellness activities coordinated by County departments, non-for profit organizations and local vendors, who will share products and educational material to promote healthy lifestyles. During an 11:00 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez will also inaugurate a new Walking Track and Fitness Zone area built on the west side of the government center in support of his Worksite Wellness initiatives. The track will be open 24/7 to County employees and the community at large.

“If we make simple adjustments in our lives – eating better, exercising and getting more rest – we can become a healthier community,” said Mayor Gimenez. “I encourage everyone to visit the Wellness Fair to learn about healthy lifestyles.”

"AvMed is proud to partner with the County to improve the health of its employees and the community at large," said James M. Repp, AvMed Senior Vice President. "As the County's health care benefit provider, we are also very supportive of all of Mayor Gimenez's workplace wellness initiatives."

During the event, participants will enjoy music, food and a number of interactive activities from the Miami-Dade Public Library System, Zoo Miami, Deering Estate at Cutler, Fruit & Spice Park as well as Parks, Recreations and Open Spaces programs such as Eco-Adventures and Fit 2 Play. The Wellness Fair will also host a local farmers market, two live transmission from local radio stations, food trucks, free on-site health screenings and more. Selected vendors will accept cash, credit cards, debit cards and EBT.

The Spring into Wellness Mega Fair is one of several Worksite Wellness initiatives sponsored by the Office of the Mayor. The event is made possible with in-kind contributions from County Departments, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Miami-Dade County Health Department, the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade, The Miami–Dade County Employee Wellness Center as well as sponsorships from local vendors.
