NOTICE: As of October 28, 2009, the Independent Review Panel (IRP) has suspended operations due to not being funded in the current County budget. This office is closed pending the restoration of funding.

If you have a complaint about a Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) employee, call the MDPD Professional Compliance Bureau-Internal Affairs office at 305-599-3550.

If you have a complaint about any other County department, call 3-1-1 for assistance.

The Independent Review Panel (IRP) was created to address serious complaints about Miami-Dade Police or other County employees or departments. The IRP is where to go if you wish to be heard by civilian staff that does not work for the police department, trained to listen carefully in a manner that is neutral and unbiased.Learn more   

IRP staff members are Conflict Resolution Specialists that mediate less serious complaints and provide Conflict Resolution training workshops for government employees and the public. Staff is available for speaking engagements and complaint management consultation.Learn more

Your actions can impact an officer's response toward you. For instance, keeping your hands visible, whether or not commanded to do so, reduces officers' concerns  for their personal safety and allows them to focus on the purpose for engaging  you.

If you treat an officer with courtesy and respect, even if you feel they are being rude, more often than not, you will be treated with courtesy and respect.

Answering questions by an officer truthfully will remove suspicion and will help make the encounter run smoothly.
