The late Jay T. Malina was Founder and Co-Chair of the One Community One Goal® initiative that established a master plan and implementation process for job creation in Miami-Dade County.
History
Jay T. Malina was a highly successful South Florida entrepreneur who made his personal fortune through Anilam Electronics, a company he founded that manufactured computer measuring devices for the machine tool industry. He was actively involved in local community organizations that include Enterprise Florida, the World Trade Center Miami, the Dade Manufacturers Council, The Beacon Council, Florida International University, and the Orange Bowl. He also served as the first Chairman of the Trade Mission Center of the Americas, which was renamed by Miami-Dade County Commissioners in 2002 as the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium (ITC) that is now an official county agency.
The One Community One Goal® initiative was established in 1997, and focused on targeted economic sectors that would help grow enough jobs to meet the community's goals, enhance employment opportunities, and enable economic growth. The initiative targeted 7 key industries for nurturing growth:
- Biomedical
- Education
- Film & Entertainment
- Financial Services
- Information Technology
- International Commerce
- Telecommunication & Visitor Industry
Since 1997, the One Community One Goal® initiative has evolved and now includes the aviation, education, and healthcare industries. This initiative developed a long-range community plan that has fulfilled Jay's vision for a better and greater Miami-Dade County. |
