As a direct result of an invitation made by Commissioner Natacha Seijas during ITC's May 2008 mission to Poland, Marcin Korolec, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Poland, led a trade delegation to Miami-Dade from March 28th through April 1st, 2009. The goals of the mission were to initiate and develop trade cooperation between Polish and American companies from the South Florida region, to become familiar with Miami-Dade's trade institutions and government, and to gain a better understanding of Miami-Dade's role as a platform for trade with Latin America and the Caribbean.
Poland's trade with Latin America is approximately $4 billion, and the top trading partners in Latin America include Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Venezuela. Poland is interested in increasing exports to Latin America, using Miami as a Gateway entry point to the region. In 2008, total trade between Miami and Poland totaled $61.8 million, up 16% from the previous year. In 2009, Poland is expected to be the only European county to experience positive GDP growth of about 0.7%, and is expected to exceed 2.2% by 2010.
The twenty member Polish delegation included four government officials and sixteen business entrepreneurs that were interested in purchasing and/or selling previously owned vehicles, dietary supplements, molds and plastic products, hotel and restaurant equipment and supplies, spirits, agro processed food, construction, and real estate. Using its extensive database, ITC was able to schedule over 80 business-to-business matchmaking meetings with local Miami-Dade companies. The ITC worked with Lady Blanka Rosentiel, the Honorary Cousul General of Poland in Miami, to organize the mission events. The Polish Consulate, the Miami Art Museum, and ITC held a reception for the delegation at the Miami Art Museum. |
