ITC Protocol Activities
Whether hosting foreign trade officials to discuss the benefits of Miami-Dade County as the global gateway for international trade, visiting the government of a foreign city or province as part of a Sister Cities mission, or interacting with the professional diplomats who have been posted to Miami’s large consular corps, protocol plays an important role in the regular activities of the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium of Miami-Dade County. Protocol, commonly regarded as a set of international courtesy rules that are designed to make meetings between nations easier, is not only important for meetings between government officials, but is also adapted for business settings. The ITC routinely interacts with both government and private sector individuals as we go about our department’s mission of promoting Miami-Dade County as a Global Gateway by enhancing international relations, cultural understanding, and trade
In addition to the more than six million international visitors who came to Miami-Dade County in 2007, many foreign nationals maintain residences in the County and spend a considerable amount of time here. This means that every day, Miami-Dade County employees from a wide range of departments interact with our foreign guests, and have an opportunity to positively shape the experiences our guests have while visiting our County. The Jay Malina International Trade Consortium is pleased to have developed and produced an ongoing series of Protocol Symposiums for Miami- Dade County employees and organizations that deal with international constituencies. Several hundred County employees have attended these seminars that provide practical and useful information to avoid cultural misunderstandings and to better communicate with our international guests. |
