Sister Cities Celebrates the Universal Language of Art
Miami-Dade County Sister Cities Program and Miami Dade College are sponsoring The Seventh Annual Miami-Dade Celebrates the Art of its Sister Cities Exhibit at Miami Dade College's Tower Theatre from September 17th - October 8th. The theme for this year's exhibit is "The Universal Language of Art." The exhibit will consist of art work by artists from Sister Cities affiliated communities. The opening reception scheduled for September 17th will once again draw together community leaders and art enthusiasts. The exhibit will be open to the public and proceeds will be used to provide a scholarship to a Miami Dade College student who has demonstrated academic achievement and civic responsibility. The "Call to Artists" deadline is July 21st.

Laurice V. Hunter-Scott - Inspiration, Reflection, Recollection
Former Sister Cities Coordinating Council member and long time advocate of citizen diplomacy, Laurice V. Hunter-Scott, launched her book of poetry, Inspiration, Reflection, Recollection on June 11th at the North Dade Regional Library during Caribbean American Heritage Month. In her book, Laurice shares her experiences as a Jamaican-born woman and nurse looking for success.

ITC Executive Director, J.A. "Tony" Ojeda and members of the Sister Cities Coordinating Council gathered on April 30th to celebrate Laurice Hunter-Scott's 20 years of service to the Miami-Dade County Sister Cities program. Laurice has been a tireless advocate of citizen diplomacy and over the years helped organize the Sister Cities mission to Jamaica, assisted with fundraising events, and was the long time chair of the Sister Cities Scholarship Committee. Though she has resigned from the Coordinating Council, Laurice has pledged to remain active in Sister Cities activities. Thank you, Laurice!
Norma Amaro Appointed Vice Chair of Sister Cities Coordinating Council
Ms. Norma Amaro, chair of the Sister Cities Arts Committee and the affiliation with San Jose, Costa Rica, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Sister Cities Coordinating Council by Mayor Carlos Alvarez.
Youth Summit Challenges Students to Promote Global Peace through Citizen Diplomacy
On April 21st, more than 50 high school students from William Turner, Michael Krop and Miami Carol City High Schools gathered at Miami-Dade College North Campus to participate in the annual Sister Cities Youth Summit for Citizen Diplomacy.
Cape Town, Dakar Approve Sister City Affiliation With Miami-Dade
Mayor Carlos Alvarez has signed a new Sister Cities affiliations with Cape Town, South Africa, and Dakar, Senegal, marking the program's first ever affiliation with communities in Africa. Once the agreements have been signed by the mayors of Cape Town and Dakar, they will be recorded with Sister Cities International in Washington, D.C., and citizen volunteers will come together and plan the programmatic activities.
Sister Cities Summit Lays Groundwork for Coordination, Cooperation
On March 24th, representatives from the Town of Bay Harbor Islands, the Office of the Mayor of the City of Miami, and the Homestead Sister Cities program joined members of the Miami-Dade County Sister Cities program for a discussion about what activities each of the programs was undertaking and how each of the programs could better work together to promote citizen diplomacy and cultural understanding. In addition to establishing new relationships that will facilitate better cooperation among programs in the future, participants expressed a strong desire to work together on specific projects. Participants agreed to gather in the near future for another planning session.
Vice President Of Sierra Leone Leads High Level Economic Mission to Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dorrin Rolle welcomed the Vice President of Sierra Leone, the Honorable Samuel Sam Sumana, two ministers of the country's cabinet and other high level officials to Miami-Dade County.
