    Applying for a Job

What weight will be given to the information I provide on my application?

Your application is your calling card, your introduction to Miami-Dade County. It is your only opportunity to make a memorable first impression and it plays a significant role in the recruitment and employment processes.

Your employment application tells us who you are, the kind of work you have done in the past and the education or training you have received.  It is our primary source of information and Miami-Dade County depends on you to make sure everything in the application is truthful and presents a complete picture of who you are.

Applicants need to keep in mind that the care with which they complete their employment applications is important and obvious to the hiring managers.  Given the number of applications Miami-Dade County receives each year, the clearer and more complete the application is, the easier it will be for hiring managers to determine whether you have the knowledge, skills and abilities sought in a candidate for employment. If it is not noted in your application, the hiring manager has no way of knowing that you possess the kind of background that he or she wants in a new employee.

Perhaps the most important factor in an employment application is its truthfulness. It is not difficult for interview panels to determine whether an applicant embellished information in the application or fabricated experience he or she does not have. Even if you interview successfully, get employed and perform well in the job, if it comes to light that the information in your application was not truthful, you will more than likely be dismissed from county service, regardless of how well you perform your duties.
