Welcome to the Miami-Dade County Juvenile Services Department Website!

    space
The Miami-Dade County Juvenile Services Department (JSD) is committed to the youth and families of Miami-Dade County

The Miami-Dade County Juvenile Services Department allows representatives from law enforcement and social services to work together under one roof to provide a complete range of services for both at-risk youth and youth involved with the Juvenile Justice System. Formerly known as the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC), the facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Since it first opened in 1997, the facility has served as a centralized processing, referral, and evaluation center for all 130,000 juvenile arrests in Miami-Dade County. The JSD serves as a benchmark agency at both national and international levels.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy recognized the JAC as an "exemplary program" in the President's 2004 Drug Strategy Report for leading the charge in developing ways to "Intervene Early."

White House ONDCP/OJJDP Summit on Juvenile Justice

cmdcp logo On May 16, 2008, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) joined the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) in hosting a national summit to introduce Miami-Dade County as a national model for juvenile justice.

The one-day summit highlighted the results and progress of the National Demonstration Project (NDP), which was created to reform an active, functioning system and present the work accomplished as the national model for urban areas to reduce arrest, re-arrest, and detention rates.

The event joined over 200 experts from juvenile justice agencies, law enforcement, researchers and community providers from across the U.S. and the world who shared valuable information on juvenile justice and delinquency prevention.

    Civil Citation
A fork in the roadRepresenting a systemic change in how juvenile justice is delivered, for the first time troubled children in Miami-Dade County who commit a minor offense will have the opportunity to attain complete and targeted treatment services without the stigma of an arrest. Police departments are referring eligible children to JSD where they receive an assessment and application of appropriate, targeted interventions.

    Violence Intervention Project

Access Granted The Violence Intervention Project (VIP) is being implemented by the JSD in response to the senseless deaths and random violence affecting our children. JSD is hosting the fourth in a series of "Anti-Violence Youth 'Rap' Sessions",  on Saturday, June 28, 2008.  The initial event, held in March at Carol City High School, was praised by supporters as a much needed gathering.  At these sessions, youth and committed adults talk with each other about the roots of the violence problem and offer possible solutions. For more information, please click here VIP.
