Countdown To American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk On October 13 At Tropical Park

Entertainment includes Miami Dolphins DJ Supersede, Zumba, high school bands and food trucks

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk is only days away. The event to fight breast cancer and provide hope to all people facing this disease is taking place on  Saturday, October 13th, 2012, at Tropical Park, located at 7900 SW 40th  Street, Miami, FL 33155. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.  This year’s 5K  walk also features an array of entertainment, food and fun including DJ Supersede, the official Miami Dolphins DJ; a workout warm up and cool down  by Curves; a Zumba class; local high school bands; and some of Miami's most popular food trucks.

“We invite the entire community to participate in this year’s walk." Unfortunately, nearly everyone has been touched by breast cancer. We must do everything possible to raise the much needed funds to be one step closer to finding a cure,” said 2012 Chair Alina T. Hudak, Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor/County Manager.

Thousands of Miami residents, breast cancer survivors, and business and community members will put on their pink bras at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk to fight breast  cancer and provide hope to all people facing the disease. This noncompetitive, fundraising event will unite the community in celebrating  breast cancer survivors, educating men and women about the importance of  early detection and prevention, and raising money to fund lifesaving research and supporting programs that will further the progress to cure this disease.

Over time, the Society has invested more in breast cancer research than any other voluntary public health organization. Since 1972, it has  invested nearly $323 million in breast cancer research grants, resulting  in many of today’s breast cancer treatments.
