Do I have to have a certain type of degree?
Yes, a Master’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, or related field, is required.

The County requires official transcripts as certified by the college or university.

How many Management Trainee slots will be filled?
The County has up to four Management Trainee positions available.

What is the decision process for selecting Trainees?
The Selection Committee will screen and rate applications based upon information supplied in the application package and a standard set of rating factors. Selected candidates will be invited for on-site panel interviews.

Is preference given to qualified veterans?
Yes, in accordance with applicable laws.

If selected for an on-site interview, will the County pay for my travel to the on-site interviews?
Yes. The County will pay travel, lodging and other expenses per Administrative Order 6-1 for on-site interviews.

Selected Management Trainees will be notified by telephone or e-mail prior to the start date.

Are the Management Trainee positions paid?
Yes. Candidates who are selected as Management Trainees will receive a non-negotiable annual salary of $40,090.

What benefits do Management Trainees receive?
Management Trainees receive the same benefits as other probationary full-time County employees, including health insurance and leave accrual.

Does the Management Trainee Program provide any special training or professional development opportunities?
The internship itself will provide considerable on-the-job experience and allow the Management Trainee to participate in high-level policy analysis and observe and participate in executive level decision-making.

What assignments are given to Management Trainees?
Management Trainees are generally rotated through project-based assignments in various County departments. Trainees may be called upon to perform special tasks and projects outside of normal rotations at the discretion of the County Manager and program administrators.

Are Management Trainees guaranteed County employment following their internships?
No. Upon completion of the program, employment with Miami-Dade County is not guaranteed; however, many former management trainees have continued their careers with the County and gone on to become County executives. If a trainee is selected for a permanent position after completing the program, the trainee must comply with the provisions of the County's residency ordinance.
