Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to present resolution and recognize Joint Roundtable on Youth Safety contributors before the Board of County Commissioners on April 2

(MIAMI, April 1, 2013) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez will present a resolution and recognize the Joint Roundtable on Youth Safety’s Working Group leadership and lead community stakeholders at the upcoming Board of County Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 9:00 a.m.  The resolution affirms Miami-Dade County’s continued involvement in this vitally important partnership and its support for improving youth safety.

“Our Roundtable meetings have united elected officials, police chiefs, and community stakeholders from 34 municipalities,” said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.  “We’ve all come together with one goal in mind—to stop the acts of violence affecting the youth in our communities.  By engaging the community as a whole, while also honing in on specific areas of the County that face chronic violence, we are taking the steps necessary to ensure that we develop a safe space around our schools and other public places where children gather.”

The Joint Roundtable on Youth Safety was created by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho to unite local leaders, including Mayors and Police Chiefs of various municipalities within the Miami-Dade community, to work together on public safety initiatives in light of the recent senseless acts of violence that have affected our entire nation.  The focus of the Roundtable is the safety of our community’s youth in schools, parks, and neighborhoods.
