Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez hosts Annual Toy Drive with DJ Irie

(MIAMI, December 10, 2013) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and DJ Irie have teamed up once again to host this year’s Mayor’s Annual Holiday Toy Drive, on Friday, December 13^th, from 6:30pm – 10:00pm, at Midloft, 3404 North Miami Avenue, in Miami.  The special guest emcee will be Jason Jackson, the official Miami HEAT television host and courtside reporter.  All attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to the event.  One complimentary drink ticket will be given for every new toy donated.  All donations will benefit the Irie Foundation and the Kristi House. 

“The holidays give us the opportunity to stop and reflect, to give thanks for our blessings, and share them with those who are less fortunate,” said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.  “I ask that you please join me and many of Miami’s young professionals for this evening of fun, and to benefit the great work of the Irie Foundation and Kristi House, bringing joy and happiness to children in our community.”

About the Irie Foundation

Irie Foundation seeks to improve the lives of South Florida youth through educational and extracurricular opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them. With a particular emphasis on the arts, the foundation’s ultimate goal is to improve the graduation rate among the young people it serves. Middle school students will be mentored and encouraged to remain in the program through high school and will receive scholarship money towards college or trade school tuition.

Kristi House, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization in Miami, Florida, dedicated to healing and eradicating child sexual abuse. Kristi House operates the Orlowitz-Lee Children’s Advocacy Center responsible for sexual abuse cases in all of Miami-Dade County, population 2.5 million. Kristi House provides a healing environment for all child victims of sexual abuse and their families, regardless of income, through prevention, treatment and coordination of services with our community partners.
