Miami-Dade County will host Spring Into Wellness Fair on Friday, April 10

(MIAMI, April 6, 2015) – Miami-Dade County is hosting its next Spring Into Wellness Fair on Friday, April 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center located at 111 NW 1 Street, in Downtown Miami. Employees, residents and visitors will have an opportunity to network and participate in fun, engaging activities coordinated by County departments, nonprofit organizations, and merchants who will showcase their products and educational material to promote healthier living.

This event is part of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez’s Worksite Wellness Initiative to encourage a healthy lifestyle for employees.  The Fair will also emphasize family-oriented activities in observance of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ “Take Your Daughters & Sons to Work Day.” Mayor Gimenez will continue his long standing tradition of taking pictures with kids and their parents between 10:00 a.m. and noon inside the lobby.

“This annual spring event is a great way to promote good health and inspire everyone to get outdoors and enjoy our great South Florida weather,” said Mayor Gimenez.  “With the kids here that day, we also bring County departments together to share information about what they do to contribute to a healthy environment and teach kids about future career opportunities.”

During the event, participants can adopt a pet from the Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department, learn more about the services available from the Miami-Dade Public Library System and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department as well as many others.  Our Public Safety Departments will be here with the Fingerprinting for Safety Program, K9 Maya, the McGruff Cruiser and a fire truck, to name a few. The Regulatory and Economic Resources Department’s Environmental Resources Management Division will also celebrate Clean Air Awareness with demos and giveaways inside the lobby area that include more than a dozen different groups and businesses. Additionally, there will be a local farmers market, food trucks, free on-site health screenings for employees, special fun, and games just for the kids as well as other surprises.

The Spring into Wellness Fair is an important element of the Worksite Wellness Program led by the Office of Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. This event is made possible thanks to in-kind contributions from several County Departments and the sponsorship of the Miami-Dade County Employee Wellness Center and its instructors, the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade, Dade County Federal Credit Union, and participating merchants of the Employee Discount Program.
