Activities
The Mayor's Initiative on Aging is comprised of multiple activities open to community-wide participation including:
- Health education, disease prevention and disease management information dissemination on common diseases and conditions that effect seniors
- Screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, body mass index, glaucoma, bone density and depression
- Nutrition education and consultations
- Interactive fitness activities for all levels
- Interactive presentations on senior safety
- Dissemination of information on federal, state, and local community programs and services
- Healthcare and service provider symposiums focusing on the health and wellbeing of older adults
Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces
Miami-Dade Parks provides a wide variety of senior programs for adults ages 55 and older. The extensive selection of activities includes sports and fitness programs, arts and crafts, tai chi, yoga, water exercise and other classes specifically designed for seniors.
Miami-Dade Public Libraries L.E.A.D. Tutor Program
Project L.E.A.D. (Literacy for Every Adult in Dade) is a free adult literacy program designed to reach out to English speaking adults who are functionally illiterate and have reading and writing skills that are inadequate to cope with the demands of everyday life.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) acts as a clearinghouse to provide opportunities for persons 55 years of age and older to use their talents, skills and experiences to enrich the lives of others in meaningful ways.
Senior Companion
Provides part-time volunteer opportunities for low income persons age 55 and older through its Senior Companion Program. The program provides participants the opportunity to enrich their lives through providing services to other seniors less frail than themselves
Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade
In order to be a major catalyst for healthy living, the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade raises awareness of the benefits of healthy lifestyles and health promoting environments through events throughout the County.
Kendall Regional Medical Center Mall Walking Group
Anyone who wishes to take the necessary steps to stay healthy is invited to join the Kendall Regional Medical Center Mall Walking Group, which meets at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Food Court at Miami International Mall, 1455 NW 107th Avenue, West Miami-Dade. There is no charge to participate. For information, call 305-222-2200.

Baptist Health is committed to improving the health and wellness of our community. Baptist Health offers educational and free programs, health screenings, signature events, and access to several supports groups throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties
