About Genaro "Chip" Iglesias, Deputy Mayor

Genaro "Chip" Iglesias is Deputy Mayor to Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. He oversees the Office of the Mayor and Police, Fire Rescue, Medical Examiner, Corrections and Rehabilitation, and Community Information and Outreach Departments.

Iglesias is a long-time public servant. Before joining the County in 2011, he was Key Biscayne Village Manager.  As chief executive officer of the Village government, he was responsible for providing and exercising supervision and disciplinary control over the necessary administrative and operating staff in conjunction with official Village Council policies.

Previously, he served as Chief of Staff to then-City of Miami Manager Gimenez, and as his Chief of Staff when he was a member of the County Commission. He was also Chief of Staff to then-County Commissioner Jimmy Morales. Prior to that, he was a member of the City of Miami Fire Department for 24 years, rising to the rank of Captain.

Iglesias earned an MBA at Florida International University and a Bachelor's Degree at Barry University.
