About Lisa Martinez, Senior Advisor
Lisa M. Martinez serves as Senior Advisor to Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. She oversees the Cultural Affairs; Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces; and Library Departments as well as School Readiness, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Early Childhood Coalition, Community Action Agency Advisory Board, Vizcaya Trust, Miami-Dade Sports Commission, museums, performing arts centers, Tourist Development Council, and United Way.
Prior to joining the County, Martinez was the Executive Director of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Office of Human Resources, where she managed all deliverables and activities linked to the Race to the Top Program for the school system which required interdepartmental collaboration.
She was Director of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Grants Administration, where she managed 13 municipal education compacts with 14 local governments, developed new local government partnerships and managed a broad grant portfolio.
Previously, she was the Director of Policy and Legislation of the City of Miami's Office of the Mayor and Senior Advisor on Education Policy. She was a teacher at Coconut Grove Elementary School for 10 years.
Martinez has been involved in a variety of community organizations including Teach for America, Thelma Gibson Charter School and the Coconut Grove Collaborative. She also developed the non-profit organization, Positive Partnerships Program for the children of Coconut Grove.
