I am proud to say, the success of our Gun Bounty Program is surpassing all expectations. When we developed and implemented the Gun Bounty Program a year ago… we looked to similar models around the country that get weapons and criminals off the streets. We implemented these best practices and now -- we can point to tangible results! 

The initiative has been effective because the concept is simple… turn in someone with an illegal gun and if that gun leads to an arrest - you take home a $1,000 reward. 

After just one year, the Gun Bounty Program has resulted in 76 arrests for illegal possession of firearms and the recovery of 134 firearms.  Additionally, 76 anonymous tipsters received $1,000 each and more than 65 cases have been closed.  We have been marketing and promoting the program to pawn shops, jail inmates, courts and residents - including going door to door in different neighborhoods. 

The Program is leading us to the types of weapons and the kinds of people involved in major crimes.  It is helping us solve major cases.  For example, from one Gun Bounty tip - 11 firearms were recovered, 34 commercial burglaries have been closed, and $250,000 in restitution has been awarded to the victims of these commercial burglaries.

No matter how many budget hurdles we face, public safety is a priority.  And, initiatives with proven results are worth every penny.
