Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to deliver keynote address at Transportation Summit2013

(MIAMI, June 4, 2013) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez will deliver the Keynote Address at the opening session of the Transportation Summit 2013 on Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus’ Chapman Conference Center, located 300 NE 2nd Avenue, in Miami.

Coordinated in partnership with the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (Transportation Trust) and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners the Summit will bring together citizens, transportation advocates, community activists and government officials to discuss the future of public transportation development in Miami-Dade County.

“I’m excited to join residents, industry experts and transit advocates for a ‘big picture’ discussion about the future of mobility in our growing community,” said Mayor Gimenez.  “We’re all bearing witness to a transformative time in Miami’s history, and it’s vitally important that we find smart mobility solutions that will keep up with growth and make our hometown a more livable place for everyone.”

Breakout workshops on Innovative Financing, Mode Technology, Public-Private Partnerships and Corridor Development, led by local and national experts, will occur throughout the day.  The Summit will also feature a unique interactive Community Visioning Forum where participants will have the opportunity to address the panel of transportation professionals and articulate their view of how the local public transportation system can be enhanced and developed. Additional staff will be available to address issues requiring more extensive individual discussion.

The Transportation Showcase opens at 10:00 am with more than twenty indoor and outdoor exhibits on bus technology, passenger rail, STS, roadways, maritime as well as municipal shuttle buses.

There is no charge to participate in the Summit and registration is available at www.miamidade.gov/citt or by calling 305-779-7875.  The Chapman Conference Center can be reached using public transit.
