For tenth year in a row Miami-Dade County receives Government Finance Officers Association’s distinguished Budget Presentation Award

(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- For the tenth year in a row, Miami-Dade County has received the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.

“Once again, our Office of Management and Budget staff has been recognized by their professional peers for excellence in effective budget presentation,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “Miami-Dade County is a large, complex organization with an equally complicated budget, and I applaud our staff for consistently meeting the very highest principles of government budgeting.”

In order to receive the budget award, Miami-Dade County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.  The guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.  Budget documents must be rated proficient in all categories and the mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

Government Finance Officers Association
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), www.gfoa.org, is a non-profit professional association serving 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America.  The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.  The Budget Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
