Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez's statement on Governor Reubin Askew
(MIAMI, March 13, 2014) – Today we mourn the death of Florida’s 37th Governor, Reubin Askew. Governor Askew led our state throughout much of the 1970s and left us a legacy of ethical governance, greater transparency, and a devotion to equality and civil rights. More importantly, through his continued work and education efforts, Governor Askew set a precedent for leadership that serves as an example for all of us in public service. Our state is a better place because of Governor Askew, and I join all Floridians in extending my deepest sympathy to his wife and family. May God rest his soul.
