Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez makes a friendly wager with San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro

(MIAMI, June 5, 2014) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro made a friendly wager Wednesday on the outcome of the upcoming NBA Finals, which pits the NBA Champions the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs in a best of 7 NBA Finals.

If the Heat win the series, Mayor Castro has promised to send some of San Antonio’s finest food from Chef Johnny Hernandez down to Miami-Dade County. If the Spurs come out on top, Mayor Gimenez will have some of South Florida's famous Joe's Stone Crab sent out to San Antonio.

"Although I'd enjoy sharing delicious stone crabs with my friend Mayor Castro, I expect our Miami Heat 3-peat. I'm looking forward receiving the delicious food Mayor Castro will  be shipping from San Antonio,” said Mayor Gimenez.  “Go Heat!”

"Revenge is best served with a plate of Joe's Stone Crab," joked San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro. "As much as I want Mayor Gimenez to taste Chef Johnny Hernandez's wonderful food, the Spurs will win their fifth NBA title this year."

The Miami Heat's path to the Finals included series victories over the Charlotte Bobcats,  Brooklyn Nets,  and Indiana Pacers.
