Statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on tentative agreement with GSAF union

(MIAMI, August 26, 2014) – "I am pleased to announce that my administration and the leadership of Government Supervisors Association of Florida Professional/Supervisory Union OPEIU Local 100 (GSAF) have reached tentative agreements for ratification by GSAF’s membership. Part of the agreement allows cost of living adjustments based on the growth of property tax rolls. It is an innovative way to responsibly manage our future employee costs. If ratified by members, a new medical insurance option -- the SELECT plan -- will be added as an option for the approximately 4,200 employees represented by the GSA. The plan redesign accepted by GSAF will still offer solid coverage options, reduce costs for employees with dependents and save Miami-Dade County approximately $8 million per year, including $1.2 million in the General Fund.

"Adding the SELECT plan as an option to our healthcare coverage is the responsible course to take because it maintains excellent health coverage for our employees, while reducing the cost of doing business for our government.

“I continue to be committed to ensuring that our government is more efficient and has sustainable operating costs. Redesigning our healthcare coverage is a necessary step in this process. I am pleased that GSAF has agreed to present this plan to their members for ratification. Together, we can ensure that Miami-Dade County’s best days are ahead of us.”
